Kansas Troubles Block of the Month

Close up of blocks

Peace by Piece Quilt shop is pleased to present our February block of the month project.

The first block will be available on February 1.

If you pick up your blocks in the mornings on Wednesday and Saturday, the second week of each month, Carlene will be on hand to answer questions and help you with construction inquiries.  Of course there is always someone at the shop who will be happy to help you if you have need.  We love being able to teach new techniques and expand your quilting expertise.

The quilt tells the story of a young girl who leaves her Mother to go west in a covered wagon.  Each block represents an event in this epic journey. You will receive the pattern and her journal entries with each block.  We will be providing all fabrics for each block and the outside 1/2 square triangle border.  You will make your quilt unique by picking the sashing and border fabrics.

"Piecing the Trail to Kansas - a Quilters Journal #1 is the first in a new series of quilt patterns or books created from my interest in antique quilts & the stories of the women who made them. Conceived as a block-of-the-month (or chapter-a-month) quilt program, the story is about life on the Kansas prairie as seen through the eyes of a quilter, Lily Marie Hutchins. We introduce Lily & her family as they follow the wagon trains west from their home in Kentucky to homestead the wild prairie in the Kansas Territory during the 1850's. Our first Quilters Journal lets you experience the journey westward in a covered wagon as Lily makes a quilt to remember their trip & writes in her journal about the hardships & joy of beginning a new life in the wild west. Quilt measures 78" x 90" when finished." Lynne Hagmeier, Owner/Designer, Kansas Troubles Quilters

The colors are the rich Kansas Troubles country colors that so many of you love.  This first block represents the warm colors that will be used in your quilt.

We will need to close this block of the month project at the end of February so that we can plan our fabric purchases to include all of those that want to have this heirloom quilt.
